Vietnam Volunteering Program

Why a Volunteer Program?

Volunteering is a beautiful way to travel with numerous benefits that are being enjoyed by tens of thousands of people from all over the world each year.

f you are looking to have fun, make a difference and do it safely then you can look forward to making a volunteering trip for the following reasons:
Why Vietnam?
Reasons Vietnam Should Be Your Next Trip

If you visit Vietnam, you are guaranteed to have an adventure. Vietnam is wild, and it's easy to get out of your comfort zone- if you go a few blocks away from the backpacker's street in Hanoi, you will find that no one speaks English. The traffic is unlike any place else, the cities are bursting with life, and once you let go and ease into the rhythm, you'll find Vietnam offers an experience unlike any other. Here’s why you must visit Vietnam:

Lots of backpackers visit Vietnam hoping to motorbike along the countryside and for a good reason. Vietnam offers stunning views of mountains, fields and beaches. You can rent a motorbike, or if you are planning a long-term trip, buy one and sell it at the end. There are plenty of mechanics nearby for an unexpected breakdown, and if you aren't sure where to go, you can find plenty of well-worn paths through the country. There's nothing like exploring a country with the wind rushing through your hair as you pass through towns you would never see otherwise.

It's not just delicious coffee, it's the variety of specialities and the uniqueness of recipes. You can stick to the classic black coffee, but you can also find coffee with coconut milk, coffee with yoghurt, or even coffee with egg yolk for a rich, creamy finish. Each café will offer a different, and by the time you leave, you'll probably have a new favourite drink.

Natural wonders might not be the first thing you think of when Vietnam comes to mind, but there are many spectacular spots to visit. Hạ Long Bay located in North Vietnam features endless, lofty limestone islands topped with rainforests. Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park offers forests, caves, underground rivers but is known for its ancient limestones karsts. Merely taking a ride through the countryside will provide stunning views of sometimes mystical scenery. The deeper you delve into the country, the more beauty you will uncover.

Vietnam has festivals scheduled for the entire year- you could plan your trip based off them. You might learn how families celebrate their love for each other at the Tet festival when people stay over each other's homes and make Chung cake over a bonfire. You might run into the famous buffalo fighting festival, where the win- ning buffalo is killed and present to a god. Even public holidays create a spectacle if you happen to be in Vietnam on the second of September the streets are lit with red flags everywhere you wander.

The government does a great job of providing security anywhere you travel in the country. There hasn’t been a crime against tourists for a decade. Vietnam goes a step further than this with its welcoming locals. Locals are smiling and kind, willing to offer directions or lend a helping hand whenever it’s needed. There are even characteristics attached to specific places. People from Hue are known for their elegance and charm. If you’re from Hoi Ann, you’re known to be honest. The people of Vietnam offer something for every local to learn after a visit. Vietnam is a beautiful wild country that offers a variety of experiences for everyone who ventures into this country. It provides a rich history, beautiful landscapes, delicious coffee and most importantly, hospitable locals who make you feel like you are welcome in their country.

Volunteers engaged in teaching activities make a direct and long term contribution to the development of students for building their confidence, academic performance and future prospects. You work mostly in pairs as teachers or teaching assistants for one or more of the following kind of activities based on the curriculum and academic plans for the educational facility or project:
The project activities of the volunteers are designed in such a way that there is no need for previous teaching experience to participate in a teaching project. Teaching material, everyday lesson/activity planning and day to day support are provided for making the most impact in your time at the project.

With societies becoming increasingly individualistic around the world, the elderly and the infirm are a vulnerable lot. Old age homes are providing care and shelter to those people of the lost generation whose families are either too poor to take care of them or too uncaring. And while it may not seem as exciting or "cute" as volunteering with exotic animals or young children, there are plenty of stories and shared experiences to be created interacting with these wise persons from a foreign culture.
The day to day activities of the volunteers may include one or more of the following:

Daily caring for and help with Basic English of children from underprivileged communities is one of the most satisfying and accessible of volunteering activities. The overall purpose of these projects is to provide a higher standard of care to infant's children in different public and privately-run facilities by providing hands-on support on a day to day basis.
Volunteering activities on these projects include one or more of activities similar to the following:

Working at orphanages is a very rewarding and yet sometimes an emotional experience. While it is very satisfying to work with underprivileged children, it's when one meets them to realise that they don't have something very fundamental.
There may be an experience of an intense desire to support these kids with the very best that one can so that they may be ready to face challenges of life. And that is what volunteers help the orphaned children go through several activities, one or more than one may be included in your day to day work at the Orphanage home:
While a one-sided view of western media has somewhat put a negative light on supporting orphanages, make no mistake that the work done by legitimate orphanages and volunteers helping them makes a world of difference in the lives of the kids who don't have almost anything to call as their own.

Children with special need (mental and physical disabilities) are staring at a challenging future ahead of them. Life is already not a bed of roses for most normal adult, things become even tougher when we become aware of the biases and prejudices that these kids will face when they grow up. Future of kids is a constant source of worry for their parents as the parents think about the time when they will become old and will not be able to support their kids as much as they do now.
And therefore the activities of the projects and volunteers are crucial in providing as much preparation to these kids for what lies ahead in life for them. Volunteers not only serve as hands-on helping teachers and caregivers but also as role models for these kids to remember and draw inspiration from, for the rest of their lives.
